I started out my adult life very fit and athletic, but after several years in the high stress world of corporate aerospace (and some bad workaholic habits), a lot of fatigue, migraines, weight gain, and joint pain took over in my 30s. I hate to admit to all of the diets I subjected myself to trying to get back to the very fit and pain free body of my 20s. I just wanted to feel confident and energetic, and be able to shop in regular clothing stores again! I spent literally tens of thousands of dollars looking for that magic bullet. I tried being a vegan, counting calories, exercising more and harder. I did Weight Watchers, meal replacement shakes, Jenny Craig and even Lindora… You name it, I tried it!
Each time I tried a new diet, I just knew that "THIS time will be different!" I would get excited if I saw the scale move downward, but then it would creep up again within a few weeks and surpass the starting number. I was truly suffering on those diets. I was hungry, had chronic migraines, and I felt deprived, foggy brained and grumpy. Not exactly ideal conditions for my career as a rocket scientist back then!
The worst part is that I had lost 5 pounds, followed by gaining 15 pounds so many times that I ended up gaining 90 pounds in just a few years of chronic yo-yo dieting! It took 10 more years to learn more about several underlying medical conditions that contributed to that gain, but a lot of the weight gain was caused by the poor food choices "required" on those diets. But seeing that weight gain total hit 90 pounds was the final straw.
That’s when I decided that there HAD to be a better way.
It became a passion of mine to study the real science about food and nutrition and learn why I was struggling for so many years - and I learned how to heal my metabolism so I could not only start to lose the weight, but reduce the pain and fatigue that was holding me back from living my best life. I'm still on that journey, but there is so much more peace and joy in my life since I kicked "diets" and "deprivation" to the curb.
